Denied-Access to abortion because of more restrictive laws.
Denied-Access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care because Title X funds are not allowed to go to any health clinic that provides or refers patients for abortion care services.
Denied-That climate change is here despite the research of hundreds of scientists showing that.
Denied-That there is any connection of human activity to climate change.
Denied-That there is a deep connection between reproductive justice and environmental justice.
What do climate change and reproductive health care share in common?
Both are determined by male-dominated governments. Governments that pass laws about abortion and contraception. Governments opposed to regulations protecting the environment. Governments that endanger the health of our global home.
Regarding health care: Hundreds of millions of women want to use contraception and don’t have regular access or any access at all. Globally 45 percent of all pregnancies are unintended. If all women had regular access to family planning, the best estimate says that the number of unintended pregnancies would go from 45 percent to seven percent.
Family planning contributes to women’s empowerment, improves family and general health, advances education and life opportunities, and eases pressures on wildlife and ecosystems.
It may sound crazy to imagine that women can save this world. Yet, think of it! Women who can control their fertility have the power to move into the places where policy decisions are made and laws are passed. Women’s leadership in the U.S. and around the world is one of the greatest leverage points for increasing our collective climate resilience. Women’s creativity and innovation needed for combating climate change would be released.
It is an uphill battle for women’s leadership. Those in power never like to give up control. But together we women are a force to be reckoned with. Together we will get out the vote and bring women into power. Together we will protect our sexual and reproductive rights. Together we will take action to make our world a safer, healthier home for all.
