April 2017 – Judy Kahrl testified at a Judiciary Committee hearing in the Maine State Legislature in favor of a bill starting the process for an Equal Rights Amendment to the state constitution, LD197. It reads “Equality of Rights under the law may not be denied or abridged based on the sex of the individual.” She described how women have faced discrimination in regard to their sexual and reproductive health care for many decades. She and others spoke to the continued discrimination against women and why this amendment is needed today, 100 years after women were given the vote.
