Grandmothers Speak Out.

March 1, 2016

February, 2016. Opinion piece in local newspaper helps communicate issues related to reproductive rights. Nana Wendy’s letter to the editor in the February 25 edition of The Coastal Journal (p. 44) highlights the importance of reproductive healthcare and its role in dealing with the outbreak of the Zika virus.  This mosquito borne illness has been spreading quickly, particularly in South and Central America. It appears to be linked to severe birth defects in babies born to women who became ill with Zika during their pregnancy.  Without easy access to contraception and safe, legal abortion, women in affected areas are not able to help contain the tragic impact of this epidemic.

The Coastal Journal is a free weekly newspaper that serves the Midcoast of Maine.  Publishing letters to the editor is a great way to inform the public about important issues.  Thanks Nana!
